How a pomegranate became a design studio

Granatta Studio was born prom a painting. This is the full story.

The Origin

One day of 2024, I was looking for my next subject to paint in watercolor, and I stood in front of a pomegranate. Without hesitation I took it.

I felt drawn to its structure, the way each seed is protected by that juicy sac. How each of those sacs perfectly adapt to the next one to fill the space. That golden crown on top, and of course all the deep reds. The way something ordinary becomes special when you really look at it. I became obsessed.

That painting became my first gallery piece in twelve years. When I saw it hanged at the Charles Allis Art Museum here in Milwaukee, something shifted. It was a milestone. It was proof that the creative life I'd been imagining, and put on hold while working in production, while rebuilding a life in a new country, was still possible.

Start with the feeling

When I decided to build a design studio, I knew I needed a name that carried that feeling with me. Something that reminded me of that moment of believing in myself.

Punica granatum. The pomegranate's Latin name.
Granata. Italian.
Granada. Spanish.

And then: Granatta.

For ten years, I worked in a printing company. I learned how to pass from screen to paper, and how client-designer-production interrelate to make ideas become real.

But I've always been an artist. Someone who sees the world through textures, colors and new connections, who paints nature like looking through a microscope, who believes beauty should be part of our everyday lives.

I designed Granatta's identity starting with the feeling and the story, then finding the form.

Discovery -> Creation

I studied 200 years old books at the Milwaukee Public Library's Rare Book Collection to discover what makes antique books look that way: the typography, the illustrations, the composition, and the colors.

Then, I created an Arts & Craft pattern, inspired by the pomegranate's flower as the visual foundation. From there, Granatta materialized in a logotype and this website.

This is Granatta: handcrafted, intentional, where the line between art and design blurs. Where I help your brand feels like something made with care.

A background rooted in art, print, and production

Granatta Studio was founded by Javiera Rebolledo, a Chilean designer and artist educated in Barcelona and currently based in Milwaukee. Her background bridges product design, print design, painting, and 10 years of experience within a commercial print company.

This hands-on experience means designs are developed with a deep understanding of how things are produced: from materials and finishes, to print details and timing. This ensures the final result is not only beautiful, but realistic, and ready for manufacturing.
